Statement of Robert C. Vandermark, Director, Heritage Forests Campaign

On a Federal Judge Issuing an Injunction Halting All Activities Inconsistent with the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule

"According to the injunction, the Bush administration illegally repealed the 2001 Roadless Rule; therefore, all those projects approved in roadless areas under that repeal are illegal.

"These wild forests are some of America's most treasured, pristine and irreplaceable backcountry and we can't afford to lose them. The courts have ruled and the American people have spoken. Maybe the Bush administration will finally abandon its repeated attempts to open these last wild forests to logging and road construction."
