Statement of Robert C. Vandermark, Director, Heritage Forests Campaign

On Arizona Starting Its Petition Process to Protect Roadless Areas

Washington, DC Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded Arizona $200,000 to assist the state with its petition process designed to protect roadless areas.

"When it comes to protecting roadless areas in her state, Governor Napolitano won't leave anything to chance. By starting this petition process, Napolitano joins the growing ranks of democratic and republican governors across the country who are standing with their citizens to save their last wild forests. We hope that the administration keeps its word by not only providing support for the petition process, but also by offering real protection on the ground."
