Statement of Jane Danowitz, Director of Heritage Forests Campaign, On Forest Service Interim Protection of Roadless Areas Directive

WASHINGTON "The Bush administration's focus on forest planning as an option for the long-term protection of roadless areas in our National Forests is a disturbing step backward. If this is the roadmap by which the Bush administration intends to proceed on its upcoming amended rulemaking process, it could be a return to the old days when timber was king."
